Hello there!

It's been a while since i've seriously looked at DA. Two main reasons: i've been traveling a bit (here in Portugal) and i've been doing film photography, as you may know. Is film and DA incompatible? Of course not. But, as i said before, printed images are beautiful real life, but they loose a lot after being scanned, sharpened, etc. So, i've been somewhat hesitant in publishing my works. I just do it so that my friends know that i'm alive and trying to improve in my "art".

Doing film photography has been a true joy. All the process (from loading the film to washing the prints) is just magical, and the results are amazing. If you are not convinced, go out and see a good film photography exhibit - the detail, tones and dynamic range is amazing! You may have seen the recent announcement of the Canon 1Ds Mark III - they say it would rival with medium format film. Well, i AM shooting MF film, and my camera costed me 200Eur... ANyway, there's a place for every technology, and what matters is that everyone is happy with their work ;)

About the tagging: as i've been trying to keep up with all the messages (right now, 602 deviations and 169 messages), i saw a recent "tagging frenzy" that also got me. So, i saw that *pedroinacio and =timeodd attacked me (maybe more people, still some journals and comments to read). Here goes:

1. post these rules
2. each person tagged must post 8 random (hopefully interesting) facts about themselves
3. tags should write a blogpost about these facts
4. at the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5. go to their blog and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

So here are 8 facts about me:

1. I'm into photography because i love to do it. No money or career involved. No exhibits wanted, at this moment.
2. I've changed a lot my ideas over photography. I used all kind of gear and cameras, until i settled on film photography. Next stage: large format.
3. Sometimes i talk to lamps. If they blink for me, of course.
4. Cookies and ice cream. Hmmmm.
5. I love to run, walk, play basketball, swim; sports, in general, is a part of my life.
6. Even though i have a degree in computer and electronics engineering, i recently started another one in History. Just to get my mind busy.
7. I have a nice view over the Atlantic ocean. However, i do travel for over 1 hour to get to work.
8. I had the luck to meet amazing people who became my friends.

I tag nobody.

PS: After being tagged, *rob-art diplomatically tagged me again. Nice move! ;)

no! You HAVE to tag people - that's the point!

ARGH, don't force me!!! (was it you that started all this tagging chain?)

Now, look: if everyone tags 8 people in a couple of iterations there will be no more (new) people to tag! So, we'll just keep on answering over and over the same questions, until infinity! And worse, we'll have to answer many times a day, reaching a point where we can do nothing but answer the tagging! No more photographies, comments, etc! It's scary! Someone must stop this right now!

I'll do it! ;)

no, I didn't start it, but I think that if no-one actually answers the tagging more than once, then eventually everyone will be tagged and we'll know a little more about everyone. that's the point of the tag!

OK, agreed... More seriously: i only chose not to tag anyone because (as i tried to get up to date with my watches) i saw that a great number of my friends had already answered this tag. So i assumed that my "corner" of DA was completely tagged ;)

Do the lamps answer back? :lmao:

Successful people spend their time figuring out how they CAN, not why they can't.

Amazing! First you have to carry that huge and heavy camera around, which, of course, doesn't "work" without a good, heavy tripod. Every pic takes minutes to prepare, and you focus on a huge viewfinder. However, the ambient light reflects on it, so you have to cover yourself (and the camera) with a dark cloth. At this moment, everyone starts staring at you, and asking a lot of questions. Then, if you only have 2 film holders (as i do), you can only shoot 4 pics. Oh, did i mention that the film holders are big and heavy? ;)

Anyway, it's great! :D You can get focus from inches to infinity with the lens wide open (because of the movements), you get an extra-large negative with lots of definition and photography becomes something else, a state of mind... ;)

Well, they don't have to, they started the conversation by blinking! ;)
